March has been an excellent month for reading!
It’s hard to narrow down my favourites, so I’ll start with my least favourites.
Controversially, I wasn’t overly excited by Sunrise on the Reaping. My expectations were high, thanks to all the rave reviews I saw on social media, combined with my love for The Hunger Games. However, I ended up feeling a bit disappointed. I thought the story wasn’t all that different from the first Hunger Games book and didn’t really add much to the overall world-building. While there was nothing wrong with the book, and I did enjoy it, I wanted to love it but was ultimately underwhelmed.
Another one I didn’t connect with was Love, Mom. Despite receiving positive reviews, I found it predictable and repetitive. The characters didn’t resonate with me, and by the end, I was just bored.
Now, on to my favorites! I’m starting strong by placing The Perfect Child and A Welcome Reunion in third place. This was my fifth Lucinda Berry book, and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was tense, and I was constantly on edge, wondering what would happen next. My sympathies kept shifting between the characters, and I was completely invested in the story. The book tackled difficult topics such as trauma, child abuse, and postpartum depression with sensitivity. But… the ending? What was going on there?! Thankfully, A Welcome Reunion stepped in to tie it all together.
Choosing a second favorite is tough, but I’ll go with You Killed Me First by John Marrs. I adored the characters, especially Margo. The plot was fast-paced, and just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist emerged. I loved every moment of it.
And that leaves The Lamb in the top spot. Here’s my review of The Lamb.
As well as these books, I have read some Indie books as there is often treasure there to be discovered.
What have you all been reading in march? Any of the same ones as me? I would love to hear your bookish thoughts and comments.
