When I embarked on the journey of writing my debut novel, I never realised how profoundly it would connect me not only to the story but also to my potential readers. Today, I’m thrilled to announce the release of "Finding Home." This is a tale about identity and belonging, set against the backdrop of a nearly deserted seaside fishing town.
The Inspiration Behind My Novel
As I started crafting this story, the theme of trust emerged as a core element that intrigues me deeply. How much trust can we place in the people around us when so many seem to have hidden agendas? This question lingered in my mind as I created the character of Abbie, who finds herself in precarious situations. Her quest to uncover her mother's whereabouts takes her on an unexpected path filled with hidden threats.
Abbie's arrival in Cedarthorpe symbolises a fresh start for her—a chance to confront the shadows that have haunted her throughout her life. However, it quickly becomes evident that the secrets buried in this town could be deadly. As I developed the plot, I wanted to reflect the harsh realities of modern society, highlighting issues such as human trafficking and the characters' struggles against these evils.
Crafting Abbie's Complex Journey
Abbie's character is not just a victim; she is a fighter who embodies resilience. I wanted her to be relatable yet courageous, someone who could push through the pain of the past. In crafting her journey, I drew on personal experience and stories of individuals who have faced their own demons.
As she interacts with other characters, including Jack and Chelsea, the tension escalates. Jack is the brother of Sasha, the girl who mysteriously disappears from Abbie's new room. Forming a close bond with him complicates Abbie's mission, adding layers of emotional conflict. My goal was to create characters that feel real—individuals who are flawed but also exhibit growth throughout the storyline.
Abbie must navigate her newfound relationship with Jack while unraveling the dark web of deceit surrounding Sasha's disappearance. This relationship is not merely a romantic subplot; it adds depth to Abbie's character as she grapples with the dangers lurking in the shadows of trust.
The Dark Reality of Human Trafficking
One of the essential issues tackled in my novel is the alarming reality of human trafficking. The underworld in Cedarthorpe reveals a chilling truth about modern slavery, making the stakes incredibly high for Abbie and her allies.
Statistics show that hundreds of thousands of individuals fall victim to human trafficking every year. I wanted to shed light on this issue through the lens of fiction, allowing readers to grasp the urgency of the matter through Abbie's eyes. Her investigation reveals layers of corruption that mirror real-world problems, drawing attention to the dark corners that exist right under our noses.

Themes of Trust and Betrayal
Throughout “Finding Home,” I delve into the nuanced definitions of trust and betrayal. Abbie’s quest unearths unsettling secrets not just about Cedarthorpe but also about her own family. Her relationship with Chelsea, someone she once thought was an ally, unravels as the plot thickens.
Trust is a central theme that is explored in different dimensions. I wanted to ask: How well do we truly know the people around us? As Abbie’s relationships shift, so does her understanding of who to trust.
The Climax and Abbie's Resolution
The climax of the story is a showdown that challenges Abbie not just physically but emotionally. She is forced to confront the reality of her past while deciding how far she is willing to go to protect herself and those she loves.
This internal conflict is something I believe many readers can relate to. The emotional stakes are as high as the physical dangers she faces. As Abbie unravels the truth about her mother's past, she learns that the choices we make can have lifelong consequences—an idea that lingers long after the last page is turned.
