About Lucy
Welcome to my website! My name is Lucy and I'm excited to share my writing journey with you.
I’m Lucy Brighton, a writer and teacher who believes in the power of stories to change the world. Based in Barnsley, I’m passionate about championing underrepresented voices and shining a light on the experiences of working-class communities. Whether I’m crafting my own fiction or teaching budding writers, I’m always looking for ways to connect with people through the written word.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me reading, having ridiculous conversations with my mischievous dog Loki, or diving into new creative projects.
As both a writer and an English teacher, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. With over 16 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Creative Writing, I’ve honed my skills as a wordsmith and an educator. I specialise in short story and flash fiction writing, and I’ve been fortunate to have my work recognised with multiple prizes.
Growing up in Barnsley, a town in the north of England, shaped me in countless ways. It instilled in me a deep love of storytelling, a strong work ethic, and an appreciation for the beauty in everyday life. These values are at the heart of my writing, which explores the nuances and complexities of human experience while staying grounded and authentic.
My background gave me an interest in working-class voices: what are their stories? Why do we hardly ever hear them? It is there that my stories are based: giving a voice to the unheard and unsung.
